In the first few days of fourth grade, our class examined each of our Core Values and used them to create our classroom rules. Students were grouped in threes or fours and rotated around the fourth grade wing between six posters headed with one of our Core Values. The groups jotted down any and all ideas they had related to each Core Value. Once all groups visited all posters, we gathered for a large group discussion. What students discovered as we analyzed the posters was that there is a lot of overlap between the Core Values, and that even though we are all uniquely different, we desire the same sort of daily structures and framework that the Core Values provide to us. We took the best of what made it on to the posters, and through discussion and voting, we whittled it down to four rules. The four 4th grade rules this year are:
These rules were taped to the corner of each child’s desk, hung in the fourth grade hallway, and sent home in contract form for students and parents to review and sign. These rules will stay posted on the Expectations page under the Resources tab of this website. Grounded in the SEA Core Values, these four rules will create a nurturing environment in which all children thrive. We are so proud of our students for choosing these ideas to guide their year! |
